Boo it's Halloween

I've been away on a much needed vacation hiatus and upon my return, I had to hurry up and get my daughter a Halloween costume. Although this isn't a major holiday celebration for me, looking through all the black and orange decor in the stores inspired me to seek out wedding designs related to this ghoulish holiday. Enjoy...

A Salute To The Caramel Apple!

As I'm assembling the last of the guest favors for this weekend's weddings, I'm wondering how many of these little boxes and organza bags will I be picking up at the end of the reception. They add a beautiful presence to the guest tables, but a lot of them are left behind at the end of the night.

With fall here in and the 2010 wedding season coming to an end, what better why to celebrate the season and your guests with caramel apples!!!

Consider caramel apples decorated with the couples favorite candies and sprinkles or how about giving the female guests a bride and the male guests a groom. Or maybe stick with the traditional look of the caramel apple and create a presentation with additional sweet treats that your guests will smile about.

At my October 2, 2010 wedding, we changed the escort card table into the caramel apple display at the end of the reception. Guests were too happy to take home these tasty treats from Katherine Ann Confections in Chicago, Illinois.

Or should you really want to showcase your love of caramel apples, check out this whimsical wedding cake.

Save The Date...For what????

I recently attended a bridal show and one of the vendors there, a wedding planner/coordinator/consultant, was giving out a handout to passing brides that said Save The Dates should be mailed "5 to 4 months" before the wedding. In my opinion...NOT! Below I have listed some Save The Date etiquette to follow should you decide to mail them out.
  • Save The Dates should be mailed 6-9 months before the wedding. This will allow traveling guests to make the necessary arrangements with their employers for the time off. Plus, at the 6 month mark you should be focusing on your wedding invitation suite.

  • Although you may not have selected your wedding invitation, the Save The Date should speak about the couple and the type of wedding they are having. Maybe choose your favorite engagement photograph or use your wedding colors when selecting the style.

  • Keep your Save The Date short and sweet. List your names, wedding date and city/state. Also add your wedding website and the phrase "Invitation to Follow".

  • I still find Save The Date magnets to be the going trend because if placed on the fridge, it will be seen by your guests all the time. Regardless of your selection, don't over do it, especially with weight and awkward shapes. You want to use a standard postage stamp when mailing.

  • I shouldn't have to say this, but I will...if you mail that particular guest a Save The Date, please make sure they are on the guest list to receive a wedding invitation.

Gone, But NEVER Forgotten

Many couples will celebrate there wedding day with an important family member not present due to illness or death. The "Memorial Candle" is a customary way to give them honor without taking from the celebration of the service. It usually happens during the ceremony, but I just recently had a memorial candle lit and a moment of silence when the couple were announced into the reception. Regardless where you place the tribute, just make sure it's during an appropriate time so that the guests aren't uncomfortable.

I've selected some creative ways for the bride and groom to pay homage to those family members that have made them the individuals they are today...and the couple they will become:
The traditional Memorial Candle and/or vase with flower are engraved with the names of those you are remembering.

Having the names of those you are remembering is such a beautiful gesture and can be read by the minister during the ceremony or by the Master of Ceremonies during the reception.

Placing a bouquet on the chair or pew in honor of that family member or consider having it brought down the aisle with a framed photo and placed in a seat or at the altar.
Create a display of photographs of those family members that could not or were unable to attend your wedding day events.

Consider purchasing tiny frames that can be attached to the brides bouquet showcasing those family members dear to your heart.
