...I Found It, You Pin It...Friday!!!

Now I love a GREAT escort card, but can I tell you how I feel in love with these Lucite escort cards written in calligraphy!!! GENIUS and simply gorgeous!  What a statement piece they'd make as your guests walk into your reception space to take their seats. WOW FACTOR!!!

Taking The Tuxedo Beyond Black

I was truly inspired more by the men's attire at the 2014 Golden Globes and the 2014 Grammy Awards than the gorgeous gowns the ladies were wearing.  What I saw plenty of were men in navy or green tuxedos!  I simply loved the idea over your classic black tux.  I can remember when chocolate was the new black and now you have grey taking over the male wedding party attire.  But consider steering away from the norm and pick a color that many are not wearing.  You just might like it.  Take a look...

Now the bolder look might not be for every male, or even their partner, but for the daring...go bold and shock 'em all! Or hey, the ladies some times change for the reception...why don't you?!

"Wedding Planners Help Budget The Big Day"

"Once we have an official allowance, I tell my clients to pick three big dollar items that are important to them," Dent said.  From there, we allocate funds to make sure those things happen. This allows you to know what you can spend for the remaining actors."

Was super excited to have received a call from the Southtown Star, the south suburban Chicagoland daily paper who's parent company just happens to be the Chicago Sun Times.  They were looking to speak with area wedding planners for their 'Spring Weddings' section about helping couples plan their wedding while dealing with their specific advice.  Well I loved the idea of being called an "expert" in the sub-header, but more importantly, check out what I had to say.

...I Found It, You Pin It...Friday

The bar is probably the second most used space outside of the dance floor during the wedding reception.  How amazing are these GORGEOUS vases of delphiniums framing this light-up bar?!?!?!  OMG!  Just stunning in various shades of purples and lavenders.  WOW FACTOR indeed!!!

Industry Update: Cell Phone Recharging Stations

Have you ever been at a wedding, social or corporate event and need to charge your cell phone?  Have you walked around at a wedding and seen every electrical outlet within the reception space utilized for cell phone rejuvenation? Heck, I'm the queen of asking my DJ vendors can I borrow a plug so my cell phone can get some juice.

Well Precision Sound & Lighting has solved the problem for many of the guests attending weddings, social and corporate events with a recharging station!  I'm simply in love with this idea!!!  That means you can now take all the photos you want, check your e-mail and social media sites without worrying about the battery-life of your cell phone.  Just find the charging station, hook your phone up, grab a dance and a drink, pick-up your phone and enjoy the rest of your evening.

Great idea, Sid!!!

Bridal Show Season Frenzy

Well it's that season again...Bridal Show Season!!!  If you are a couple getting married, I suggest you visit at least one bridal show during your engagement.  You can really get a lot of ideas, meet some reputable vendors and taste some fab food and desserts.

But since these large (and small) shows can reek havoc on a person who does not like crowded spaces, I've inserted a survival guide below to help you through and make it an enjoyable experience:

  • Know your budget before visiting a bridal show
  • Pre-register for the show and make a list of those vendors you must meet.
  • Plan to spend several hours at the show visiting with vendors.
  • So wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
  • Bring a members of the your bridal party or family with you to the show
  • Bring a large bag or backpack to collect plenty of materials, magazines and samples from the show.
  • Collect information from every vendor even if you aren't sure you'll need it.
  • Bring a calendar to make appointments
  • Bring labels with your name, wedding date, contact information and e-mail address to put on the exhibitors registration sheets. This will save your hand :)
  • Arrive at least one hour before the bridal show to get a good seat.
  • Bring along your color swatches and photo ideas to reference when speaking with vendors.
  • ...and have fun!

Wedding Trends for 2014

I was so excited when I was asked to be a guest blogger and discuss Wedding Trends for 2014 by Bride Appeal. I have taken the liberty to list a few of my favs below, but please check out the entire article at http://brideappeal.com/blog/2014-wedding-trends.

Wedding Gown Trends
Bridal Market in October 2013 showed dramatic wedding gowns in shades of pink; dramatic backs; illusion necklines; tons of bling; and even pants suits.  The high-in-the-front and long-in-the-back wedding gowns are allowing the shoe to take the spotlight.  You will also see a lot of texture and three-dimensional appliqués on wedding gowns.

Wedding Detail Trends
Wedding signage is taking over the ceremony and reception!  It is becoming a staple like wedding programs and menu cards.  Some popular signs you will see are “Mr. & Mrs.” on chair backs, “Pick a seat not a side” at the ceremony, photo booth signs that read “Grab a prop and strike a pose” at the reception; and “For your dancing feet” attached to a basket of flip-flops near the dance floor.

Wedding Guest List Sizes
Guest lists are shrinking to around 100-125 guests.  The more intimate wedding of simply close family and friends are allowing couples to stretch the budget further plus give their guests more of an experience outside of dinner and dancing.  You will see restaurants and small boutiques becoming more popular for these intimate affairs.

CSW Article: Making Dollars and Sense of Your Day

I was asked by Chicago Style Weddings to share some budget, cost-saving wedding planning tips for couples planning their wedding.  I'm a firm believer in discussing budget and guest count FIRST before the planning even begins.  Then consider hiring a professional and seasoned wedding planner to assist you with find the best vendors for your budget.  Take a look at what we had to say:

...To that number, they [the couple] needs to estimate the added amounts of wedding cash gifts as well as money from their parents and other family members and friends who have committed to contributing.  "Candidly ask what dollar amount they would like to give or if they would like to contribute toward the cost of a particular vendor or item, says Desiree' Moore Dent, president and lead planner of Dejanae Events.  "Even modest donations can add up to help pay for high priced expenses."
"Many planners work with preferred vendors that offer specials and discounts to their wedding clients, " says Dent of Dejanae Events.  "Our goal is to assist couples by seeking out vendors who give stellar service and who successfully work within their budget."
